A thought and a prayer for Sunday (10th May) from Father Michael

John Chapter 14 verses 1-14

The Gospel reading for this Sunday, Easter 5 is as above. In verse 1 we read our Lord says  'Do not let your hearts be troubled'. And then in the same chapter but verse 27 he repeats this advice with the addition of 'Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not let them be afraid'.

We all get anxious - about many things - a lot of the time and more especially at this time in dealing with the pandemic.

So when Jesus makes the statement, 'I am the Way, The Truth and the Life' modern thinkers are almost certain to want to weigh up their options.  What about other 'Ways' to follow?

But you know we live in a world of people searching, searching for the truth, for the right way to turn, for the 'thing' that will give them that peace of mind, that knowledge that they have found the truth to their often mixed up lives.

I'm sure we all know or at least have seen people who are looking in some crazy places for the answer? And I am sure we have wondered, I know I have, how such intelligent people could be looking for the truth - there?

Well part of the answer is, when you are lost…you are pretty desperate, and like a man starving for food, you might be willing to try just about anything to survive.

I am aware that to follow the advice in the scriptures is not always easy, especially when the going gets tough. But having looked at many options and life choices over the years, as Christians, we have come to the realisation and have the commitment that there is nothing to compare with walking the Way of the Risen Lord!

A Prayer

We are not a people of fear, we are a people of courage.
We are not people who protect our own safety, we are people who protect our neighbour's safety.
We are not people of greed, we are people of generosity.
We are your people God.
Giving and loving wherever we are, whatever it costs
For as long as it takes, wherever you call us.
Amen.
